![]() We mixed white and red to make the vibrant pink blossoms. ![]() We used ink pooled in a line down the paper and blew it with a straw to make thinner branches. This non confrontational approach to solving problems was just what I wanted to share with this particular group this week.Ī perfect storm! The book Zen Shorts, the blossoms, the silk scarf and I had the beginnings of this new and exciting lesson. The stories teach the polar opposite of what most of the students are taught at home. In the book there are tons of beautiful illustrations some done in watercolor and some in stylized ink (they remind me of chinese calligraphy.) The book also tells about a Zen approach to the world. (I don't rate price because it is not a consumable and will pay for itself over time) Student Interest (how does it hold the whole classes attention) Instructional Value (is this something I could not show the students myself or bring them to see) Visual Interest (does it look like a movie I would watch at home) Length (30 minutes or less works best for me) I won't waste our time by listing all the videos that have collected dust on the shelf. Usually we'll watch the Eric Carle one every year without fail because it ties in so well with the lesson and really inspires our paper making. I didn't get around to showing one of them this year because I was on leave and wanted to spend as much time as possible with hands on learning. There are only a few that I consider really worth my precious class time because they are so rich in learning. This list is compiled from years of wasted money and intense research thumbing through catalogues, taking art workshops and trial and error. Our conversation about tempera paint has helped ME a lot! Thanks. So I will be posting my BEST finds that I hope can help you narrow down your selections. I know a lot of us are starting to think about ordering even if we don't have our budgets in yet.
